"I took Judy's 'Beginners DSLR Photography Workshop' and it was just what I needed to fully learn how to use my camera. Good, clear points on how to use your camera, and Judy was very helpful to each of us and our different cameras! I recommend!."

Casey

"I took Judys photography course and absolutely loved it. What a fantastic day! Judys friendly yet professional teaching really simplified everything and I could instantly see the difference in my photos. Great fellow participants and not forgetting the fabulous cakes. Looking forward to putting it all into practice."

"So grateful to have received a Judy Laing Photography workshop voucher for my Christmas. It was one of the best gifts! Judy makes you feels so welcome. The hospitality across the morning is fab – endless cups of tea, home bakes and a seriously impressive lunch spread. The workshop itself is fantastic. I can honestly say it’s totally opened my eyes to using my DSLR camera the way it’s supposed to be used. Judy has such a brilliant way of teaching about photography and the essential basics that’s needed to be able to confidently make the switch from auto to manual. At the start of the workshop I wasn’t convinced I’d willingly choose to come off auto (a mode I’m all too familiar with after relying on it the past four years) but after seeing for my own eyes the kind of photos I can take on manual mode it’s a no-brainer. Well done Judy, you’ve converted a die-hard auto fan to manual!"

Sarah-Jane

"Thoroughly clear and understandable guide to your DSLR - very impressed with the effort put into this short course. It takes great teaching ability to pass on the underpinnings of photography in a few short hours - and to combine this with hands-on practical experience. Thoroughly recommend it as a small investment added to the expense of your camera. "

Who is the workshop for?

This workshop is for absolute beginners. Please do not worry if you have had no experience whatsoever in using your DSLR. It is also for those who have dabbled a little in taking their camera off AUTO but are still struggling to get the photos they desire or understand what exactly aperture or ISO is! This one day workshop will fill in the gaps for you and will give you all the knowledge you need to start shooting in manual mode.

What will I learn?

The day is a mixture of classroom learning and a practical outdoor session. We will cover topics such as exposure, aperture, shutter speed, ISO in a clear and step-by-step format. I will take you from shooting in AUTO mode to being able to be in control of your camera and shooting in full manual mode. We will also discuss basic composition, white balance, how to get sharp images and using natural light to its best advantage.

How much does it cost?

The cost for the day is £95 which includes plenty of tea, coffee and home-baking and a delicious homemade lunch. You will also be provided with handout materials to take home with you. I only have 6-8 course attendees at any one time so I can provide you with lots of time and attention and answer any questions you may have. There is also an optional Facebook group you can join after the workshop to share photos and take part in our weekly challenges.

Can I buy a Gift Certificate?

Yes of course! Please use the link below to book the place for your friend or relative, then just contact me and I can provide you with a lovely Gift Certificate through the post.

What dates are available?

What will I need to bring?

All you need to bring with you on the day is your camera, a fully charged battery, an SD card and any lenses you own. If you have your camera manual to hand that can be useful to search for some of your camera's functions if needed. A pen and notebook will also be useful. Please dress appropriately for the weather on the day as we will be outdoors for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

Can I get a refund or reschedule?

No refunds or rescheduling of your workshop date can be given within 4 weeks of the workshop date. If you cannot attend, you are responsible for selling your place. Your money will be refunded only when your place is filled. This is not workshop for those wishing to start their own photography business but is aimed at hobbyists and amateur photographers.
